Tributes have been paid following the death of a well-known and popular Doncaster teacher and motorcycle instructor.

Dave Newby, who taught in Balby and also at Doncaster’s HMP Lindholme, died at home last month, an obituary said.

The craft, design and technology teacher was also known to many as an accomplished motorcycle instructor.

The obituary said Mr Newby had died ‘suddenly and unexpectedly’ at home in Ealand near Crowle on August 20.

It added: “Current restrictions accord with his wishes for his funeral to be as simple as possible.”

In lieu of flowers, the family will be making donations in his memory to the charities Dave supported – Mayflower Sanctuary at Bawtry and Bransby Horses and Shelter.

The obituary added: “He went, as he wanted, with his boots on.”
