PARKGATE 3
LINCOLN MOORLANDS RAILWAY 2

THE STEELMEN ended their run of three defeats with a narrow win over in-form Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Play was entertaining from the start and Parkgate soon took the lead when Lincoln keeper Richard Ossai fumbled an Ashley Longstaff effort allowing Mark Caine to follow up and slot home.

Lincoln came very close to an equaliser inside the proceding
ten minutes but Adam Hewitt's superb free kick went inches wide. The visitors continued to cause trouble with Jack McGovern finding space but seeing his ferocious shot well held by Parkgate keeper Liam Richardson.

After weathering the storm, Parkgate came back at Lincoln and soon doubled their lead. Kieron Gallagher found Caine on the right who cut inside before returning it to sender to fire into the bottom corner. Just three minutes later, the margin returned to a single goal after Simon Clifford mis-hit his cross and sent the ball over the helpless Richardson.

The action was end to end with Longstaff breaking clear only to fire his shot across goal just wide while Clifford again shot from distance but was denied by Richardson.

Longstaff continued to cause problems after the break and drew a fine save from Ossai with a well hit volley towards the corner. Parkgate seemed destined to see out the game comfortably but could not find the goal that would ease the worries. Jordan Beech met a free kick at the back post but headed wide.

Failure to make the early second period pressure tell seemed to inspire Lincoln to go for broke. Just after the hour they were rewarded and Parkgate's luckless run looked set to continue. Simon Mowbray strolled past the Parkgate defence with ease and found himself one-on-one with Richardson. The keeper stood up well but his parried effort fell straight to Mowbray who shot into an open net.

Rather than wallow in their misery, Parkgate came back at Lincoln. Caine himself was left with just the keeper to beat but Ossai saved with his feet. The pressure continued with Longstaff and Luke Fletcher working well on the left before the latter found Gallagher at the far post who inexplicably skied over from just three yards. Substitute Luke Booker defied belief himself seconds later, his header from close range also flew over.

With time running out, Parkgate finally got the reward for their near-relentless pressure when Longstaff headed a freekick from deep back across goal where Caine rose to seal the win. Lincoln pushed for another leveller and it took the best that the superb Richardson had to deny them deep in stoppage time.

Sean Hutchinson's Steelmen will be looking to pull themselves back towards the promotion race as they travel to Hall Road Rangers, currently a point ahead in the table, on Saturday.
