MEXBOROUGH ROVERS UNDER-11S
ROVERS were edged out 3-2 by a strong Brierley side in a highly entertaining and competitive contest. Josh Hepworth and Ben Saunders netted what proved to be consolations for Rovers in an end to end clash that could have gone either way.
A week earlier Ricky Wheeler hit five as Rovers ran out 13-0 winners against a determined Worsbrough side. Matt Scott and Kyle Guest both hit braces while Josh Hepworth Aidean Bedford, Ben Shaw and Ben Saunders all found the net. Excellent passing in
less than favourable conditions proved to be the undoing of a Worsbrough side that refused to lie down.

The Mexborough side are still on the lookout for personnel to boost their ranks and anyone interested should contact coach Steve on 07706969905.

WATH ST JAMES UNDER-16S

THE SAINTS are still celebrating after becoming the first side in the club's history to reach the last 16 of the Sheffield FA Youth Challenge Cup following the 3-2 extra time win at Aston Juniors.

From the outset Wath gained the upper hand and a trademark strike from the edge of the area from Josh Wilcox opened the scoring. Poor conditions made it difficult for both sides to keep the ball on the deck while howling winds made aerial play unpredictable. The Saints continued to apply pressure with excellent forward surges but were unable to build on their advantage before the break.

Aston had the wind in their favour for the second half and their pressure grew with only strong tackling from Wath preventing them from finding the leveller. It was a speculative effort that undid Wath with players slipping in the area opening up the gap for the hosts to equalise.

Wath once again had the wind at their backs as they clash moved into extra time. The ball was forced over from close range as The Saints took a timely lead with conditions taking their toll on the tired players. Aston managed to again find an equaliser from a free header at the back post that flew past a stranded Chris Jones between the Wath sticks.

The Saints changed formation in a bid to gain the win before the penalty shootout lottery. Their efforts soon paid off after a strong of corners when Wilcock delivered the ball deep into the danger zone where Formbey rose to nod home and send Wath into the next round.

Wath will travel to Redfearn Juniors in the last 16 clash which is due to be played on December 14.
